Passionately Orange Green Tea - Fusion Tea Room

The very generous and lovely Fusion Tea Room sent me a couple of teas to sample, and immediately upon receiving them I couldn’t wait to see what this one would taste like. The smell is very, very intriguing with the perfume of papaya lingering about. I was feeling pretty creative tonight and decided to make a pitcher of iced tea with fresh orange slices. I used the entire sample contents, about 6 heaping teaspoons to 4 cups of water. I let the tea steep for 3 minutes, then poured over a pitcher filled with ice and threw in one sliced orange. The result was great - very refreshing! I could have made it a little bit more tea concentrated, but with the weather outside, I’ll be able to have the entire pitcher to myself tonight. The sliced orange is a great pair with the slight tang the tea has, and the green tea flavour comes out in perfect balance. The only bad thing I can say about this tea is that I’m not so much of a fan of the papaya that was added. It throws me off a little, but it’s still a very enjoyable cup overall.

This afternoon -

I’m having crepes and tea at this cute little cafe called LUNA.

As well, I wanted to tell my lovely followers that we haven’t quite reached 2222 followers yet, for the giveaway - so I’ve decided to kick it down to 2100 followers, or the end of Easter weekend. I hope you all are enjoying your long weekends!

Lots of love,

Jin Jun Mei - Kimicha Tea Review

Firstly, I would just like to mention that I do work for Kimicha and I wanted to assure everyone there is no influence on what I’m about to say. Secondly, I adore this tea.

The appearance of this tea is one of my favourite things about it - it has such beautifully twisted leaves and golden tips. When brewed it comes out a deep amber colour. Looks aside, this tea is just so good!

Tonight I enjoyed five steeps. (Though I have had it up to seven). The dominant flavour is definitely a sweet honey taste. There is also a hint of smokiness - which could be cause of how the tea was created - by Master Liang Junde - using a method similar to that used in producing Lapsang Souchong. It’s the hint of fruit and raisins though that makes this such an enjoyable tea. An added bonus is the lack of bitterness or astringency, it remains such a smooth cup through all five infusions.

I like to think of this as my trail mix of tea. It has everything you could possibly want in a tea in one amazing package :)

Liz Tea Update!!! :D

Lovelies!

I’m sorry I’ve been so inactive lately - as most of you know, I have TWO jobs and in the past few weeks they’ve been really demanding of my time. As an apology for keeping my tea posts away from you, I’ve decided the only fair thing to do is to have another tea giveaway. This one won’t be as big as the last… but I’ll come up with a little something nice for you guys, so expect a post later in the day about that.

On another note, I just wanted to take some time to tell you all a bit about what has been keeping me so busy. My jobs! While I’ve been away I’ve gotten a couple of questions about what it is that I do, so I’m going to tell you:

I’m a part-time barista at Bridgehead, and a business development assistant.

Bridgehead is a local coffee shop that only sells fairly traded and organic coffees. (Don’t worry, they sell tea too!). I have always enjoyed working in an cafe environment and meeting all these different souls, so it’s a perfect fit for me. The company is amazing. They treat their employees great and they’re always helping out in the community. They don’t have too much of a focus on tea, so I am able to help educate some of the other employee’s and customers on steeping times and re-steeps, etc. It’s a great opportunity and I can’t wait to see how my time at Bridgehead helps me to grow.

Working as a business development assistant at KIMICHA Tea is my full time job. I pretty much help the owner and founder, Kimiko Uriu, with anything that she needs. I make press releases, proposal letters, pack tea, help with the Tea & Chocolate Pairing Workshops, update the company Facebook page, and a bunch of other stuff, too. Not only is Kimi my boss, but she was also one of my teachers in the Tea Sommelier course. Her knowledge for tea is contagious, if that even makes sense, and I’ve learned so much through her. This is the perfect job to prepare me for when I want to open my own tea business one day.

Anyway, that’s enough blabbing for now. If you have any other questions about my job, feel free to ask me!

I missed you guys :3

Exciting News!

Hey everyone!

I hope you’re all having a great weekend. I’m just on my break so I’ve got to keep this short but I wanted to let you all know about something really exciting that recently happened! KIMICHA, the tea company in Ottawa that I work for just won FIRST PLACE in the North Amercian Tea Championship for our Jin Jun Mei black tea! I’ve tried the tea myself and I can personally reccomend it as an absolutely amazing black tea! :) If you’re interested in buying some, we have it on special for $25 right now (30g). You can even re-steep this black tea up to 7 times! :D
